Part 10: Language Spoken - Working with Text

Creating Text

In some programs it can be single line, multiline paragraph form. There are many text features (known as Text Style): Font, Height, Width, Spacing, Slant, Rotation, Color, Lineweight and Linetype.

Summary:

Objects alone cannot describe all the information of drawings or products. Text (characters, letters, numbers) is added to relate more nongraphical information. This might include the drawing name, specifications, dimensions, tables, paragraphs, text on a path, logos and other notes.

Text Style Features – “Font”

The Font is an assortment or set of type or characters all of one style and sometimes one size. See examples at right.

Text Style Features – “Width”

Width factor / Spacing Sets the character spacing. Terminology depends on propriety application in use. Entering a value less than 1.0 condenses the text. Entering a value greater than 1.0 expands it.

Text Style Features – “Height”

The Height of text is generally the height of a capital letter. See figure at right.

Text Style Features – “Slant”

Slant sets the obliquing angle of the text. See figure at right.

Text Style Features – “Rotation”

Text is created using a specified angle. See sample at right.

Note: Method depends on propriety application in use.

Text Style Features – “Color”

Sets and/or changes the text color. See samples at right.

Text Style Features – Lineweight & Linetype”

Determines how wide and type of line for characters. See samples below.

Note: In most propriety applications these can be customized.

Editing and Changing Text

Text behaves similar to other objects. You can use most object-modification commands to copy, move, scale, and rotate text. There are some exceptions. See proprietary software application in use.
